Adding Items

Adding items to an order in RoyalPOS: tapping the menu, searching, scanning barcodes, choosing variations and add-ons, changing quantity, adding notes, price tags, and offers.

How do I add an item to an order?

Tap an item in the menu and it is added to the cart on the right (or below in portrait). Tap it again to increase the quantity. The cart shows each line with its price and the running totals.

  1. Open an order (takeaway, dine-in, or delivery).
  2. Tap a menu item to add it to the cart.
  3. Tap again to add more of the same item.

How do I add an item by scanning a barcode?

With a barcode scanner connected (or the camera scanner), scan the product barcode while on the order screen and the matching item is added to the cart automatically. If several items match, you choose from a list.

  1. Open the order screen.
  2. Scan the product barcode.
  3. The matching item is added (or pick from the list if multiple match).

An item can have more than one barcode stored (comma-separated); scanning any of them finds the item.

Can one item have multiple barcodes?

Yes. An item can store several barcode/product numbers separated by commas. Scanning any one of them matches the item, which is useful when the same product comes in packs with different barcodes.

How do I choose variations or add-ons for an item?

When an item has variations or add-ons (e.g. size, toppings), a selection dialog appears as you add it. Pick the required options and quantities; the choices and their prices are added to the cart line.

  1. Tap an item that has variations/add-ons.
  2. Select the options and quantities in the dialog.
  3. Confirm — the item is added with the chosen options.

How do I change an item's quantity?

In the cart use the plus/minus controls on the item line to increase or decrease quantity. Reducing to zero removes the line. Totals update automatically.

  1. Locate the item in the cart.
  2. Tap + to increase or − to decrease.
  3. The line and totals update; zero removes the item.

How do I add a note or instruction to an item?

Open the item in the cart and add a note/comment (for example 'less spicy', 'no onion'). The note can print on the KOT so the kitchen sees it.

  1. Tap the item in the cart to edit it.
  2. Enter the note/instruction.
  3. Save — it shows on the cart line and KOT.

How do I remove an item from the cart?

Reduce the item's quantity to zero with the minus control, or use the remove/delete action on the cart line. For an already-placed dine-in item, cancelling may need permission depending on your settings.

  1. Find the item in the cart.
  2. Tap − until it reaches zero, or use remove.
  3. The line is removed and totals update.

Why does the same item show a different price for dine-in, takeaway, or delivery?

Items can have more than one price (for example a dine-in price and a takeaway/other price). RoyalPOS applies the price that matches the current order type, and you can switch the price label where multiple prices are configured.

How do offers / discounts on items work in the cart?

When an item or the cart qualifies for an offer (e.g. buy-one-get-one or a membership discount), RoyalPOS applies it automatically and shows the discount in the totals. The applicable offer/discount appears against the affected items.

How do I show item images in the menu?

Item images are downloaded from your menu. Use the download images option in settings so the menu shows pictures. If images don't appear, re-run the download with a working internet connection.

  1. Open settings where item images are managed.
  2. Run Download Images.
  3. Wait for the download to finish; images then show in the menu.
